Treks & Guides

We have very interesting Nature Treks to the Living Root Bridge and the Umshiang Double Decker Root Bridge that are open through out the year and many, many more interesting treks from October to March. River canyoning is possible in the winter months from November to end February. These are for very serious trekkers who want to do some hard walking.  It involves scrambling up rocks, jumping about rock boulders strewn in the river bed, swimming crystal clear pools, making a way thru’ thick jungle growth and serious climbing down the hill about 3000 feet and up again. There are mild, medium and challenging treks of varying intensities.  A four year old girl from Guwahati had done the trek to the Living Root Bridge along with her parents.  A 70 year old Norwegian lady and a 74 year old Delhi lady also have done this trek.  One five year old girl from Delhi has done the Double Decker Root Bridge trek along with her parents and her elder brother in May 2006.  Camping out is also possible in winter deep down in the valley. We have guides who can take you on these treks.  Bonfires are built on dry days.  Sitting around one on the top of Laitkynsew hill overlooking the plains of Bangladesh on one side and the Khasi hills and the deep valley between Laitkynsew, Mawsynram and Cherrapunjee, people, often, lose track of time.

Bird Watching

Laitkynsew and the surrounding areas offer good scope for bird watching especially during the dry winter months when migratory birds from the colder regions farther north add to the resident population of birds from the domains of Indian sub-continent and Indo-China.  Please check out the Bird List and tips on Bird Watching around here.

We invite bird watchers to come and enjoy birdwatching in these pristine hills and help us to add to the list of birds sighted around here. We express our profound gratitude to Mr. Morten Kattenhøj and Mr. Stefan Ericsson for their highly valued contribution for the promotion and development of this area as a bird watchers destination.

Cultural Evenings

We organise Cultural events including dance and music performed by our young Khasi men and women from the villages around at additional cost.  The idea is to introduce our traditional music, dance forms to our guests and help in preserving and nurturing them and make the evenings of our guests and the participants lively.
